God named KITGUM, through the British colonialists, in the 1800s, long before you or I were born.
'Kit' means 'rock' , referring to the red volcanic rock found on the numerous hills throughout the area which butts the mountains of Sudan.
'Gum' means 'blessing', alluding to the rich volcanic soil, and mineral deposits found there. Mica, quartz & gold, yet untapped, glitter across the landscape.

KITGUM = Rock of Blessing. And now we are seeing the name is apt.

But it took 20 years of my life, praying & fasting in spiritual warfare, as well as CKS U&me raising practical support, through providing food, medicine, building schools and waterbores , churches and housing for thousands of war affected children.

CHILDCARE - Kitgum Servants (CKS)..what we do, where we do it and who we are. Currently 3000 donors, 400 Ugandan staff and myself onsite. We rescue Cinderella children from the ashes of war.

The agrarian community of 3 million have just emerged from 30 years of war. I shared their pain, weeping with them each new dawn when they staggered from their mud huts, wailing for their stolen sons and daughters.
Families were brutally divided, their children abducted, marched into the bush, brutalised and forced to return as machete and gun wielding zombies.

100,000 innocent children were 'recruited' into the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army).
Noone knows the numbers of youth and children who died, their lifeblood soaking into the sand. But we watched Government helicopters fly overhead, pursuing the demonised army. Or shuddered at the sound of ground troops firing RPGs. Or listened, aghast, as escaped children told stories of wanton cruelty: cannibalism and executions of recaptured child escapees by child soldiers.

We wondered if there was an end to this hell on earth. Our trust in a loving, powerful God wavered.
We cried desperate prayers, hot with tears.

And God heard.
Local leaders like Bishop Ochola, and Father Carlos, and Brigadeer Brown heading Govt. troops, met and negotiated with the rebel leaders.
Also a powerful spiritual front raised its banner. Intercessors led by Pastor Laban of Kampala, supported Pastor Julius Peter Oyet in his courageous effort to confront the spiritual armies of wickedness on their own turf.
Pastor Oyet led his delegation through the bush to the sacrificial altar sites on high mountains, where the rebel leader, Joseph Kony, regularly prayed to receive his powers.The delegation and military escorts held their breath as Pastor Oyet prayed and drank from the 'sacred' spring. Until that moment, even animals who had touched the water died. But the delegation watched as the preacher drank and then invited astonished soldiers to descend into the water and be baptised.

God gave me His promise:

'Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord weep before the altars. Let them say 'Have pity and spare Your people. Do not give our lands to shame so that heathen tribes rule over us.
Why should they mock us and say, "Where is their God"...
God answered " I will remove far from you the northern army. I will drive them into the desert.....
Your granaries will overflow. And I will restore to you the years that the 'locust' has stolen...
And you shall eat in plenty and be satisfied . And praise the name of the Lord Your God, as I deal wondrously with you. My people will never again be put to shame...
Afterward, I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh...
All before the great and terrible Day of the Lord comes..."

Spearheading CKS program for rehabilitating ex child soldiers, a program called GUNS4GUITARS, is E.Africa's TOP GOSPEL ARTIST, EXODUS 3V8.

George is on CKS staff as Creative Arts Officer. In 2008 he fasted for 40 days, then wrote his 1st song based on his experiences living as a streetchild and in Kampala ghettoes, after his mother died when he was aged 10 years.

His song 'Ganjaman" hit top of the charts in 1 week and stayed there for 6 months.

Youth in north Uganda are inspired by George's strong Christian values. They see personally that God has raised the streetkid from the pit, and set him high on the Rock (JESUS).

George does not limit his ministry to within church walls, but weekly sings gospel to disco patrons in city clubs. Many lives are changed as a result of his visits into their world.

As God opened more doors for EXODUS 3V8, he has performed with Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Papa San and for UN functions.

He will tour 5 states in Australia Nov 5 to Dec 5, 2010, performing his latest tracks and promoting CKS.

"About 8 years ago, God gave me a vision, of African men, standing infront of a boom-gate, at an airport. They were waving their passports above their heads, and praying feverishly, to be let through the boom gate, through the airport, and onto the plane to get to their God given destination. 

The Holy Spirit said to pray for their release. I asked Him what for, and He said for them to be released into Australia. They were Pastors, Apostles, Evangelist, etc. Called of God for Australia. Then I asked Him why. He was explicitly clear. He said, because they will know how to deal with the physical persecution (Violence) and spiritual persecution, that is coming to Australia. He then whispered a Muslim image to my spirit, ie, that is where the persecution would be coming from.

A matter of months later, the topic of conversation came up with a friend who worked for Brother Andrew Ministries. I told her the vision, and she began weeping. She said that 10 years prior, the Lord had told Brother Andrew, to start training up Pastors from Africa, to hold up Australians, in a time of physical and spiritual persecutions, from Muslim influences that is coming! And they had just been discussing strategies on how to get these Pastors in to Australia. She was an administrator there, who was working on adminstrative tasks, which involved this program, to train pastors to send here to Australia, etc. Great confirmation.

I have been in the US for the past 5 years, and have just returned to Australia. I have been astounded at the monumental, and rapid growth of the Muslim community here. Just astonishing. I see Muslim men, walking the streets in Dee Why, praying over them!. But I am also seeing more and more African men and women here too.

Every time I have seen Exodus in pictures, I keep seeing this MIGHTY annointing on him, that is dynamic, powerful, and most importantly of all, slippery with Godly oil. It's like no matter how hard the enemy tries to squeeze on him, to get hold of him, he slips through his hands like a slippery grape! This may sound funny, but it's not about Exodus, it's about those who are coming behind him.

Exodus is like a spear head, a praiser on the front line, that is going to break through into other nations, where it is so needed (In wealthy countries). God will use him as a mouth piece, for many more to start listening. I sense God is using him, to be the spear head, that will release a mighty army behind him, into first world countries, like America, Australia, and even Europe. And this is just the start, only just the start of you seeing a harvest, and the enormity of what God has really called/used you to do. 

I sense that what God has called you to in Africa, the purpose of everything God has called you to, is about to be revealed in it's fullness and divine purpose. 20 years of chipping at a mighty dam wall, with a little hammer. That tiny little hole has been made, and the mighty pressure, weight, and power of God is about to coming rushing through it, break down the wall, and flood through the continents.

It's like God sent you to the orphans to minister to the children, but the ultimate purpose, was for you to be a spear head for Africa, and for the globe, to sow spiritual and physical seed, to grow up men and women in His army in Uganda, that will raise up the church through out the world, and ultimately be a rescue to a sleeping church in first world countries. For strategic end time purposes, against the Anti-Christi Spirit. 

You have carried the burden of millions. But the very ones who you have carried for so many years, are going to go out, and recruit the support of millions, and they will now carry you. I hear the Lord saying, the seed has died, and I have super naturally caused it to multiply thousands of times over. I saw a picture of you with a baton in your hand, on a front line. You put it down, and instead of one other person coming to pick it up, literally a whole army of countless thousands rushed forward to pick it up. WOW!

The Holy Spirit also just said that He has used you, to cripple principalities. I sense a deep, deep rest and refreshment is coming for your mind, body and spirit, like you have never experienced before. 

I don't claim to have a full revelation of anything, I am human, and I only know in part. But I do hope it has been of some value to you. 

You're all deeply embeded on my heart. Please let me know of specific needs you have. I will do what ever I can to meet them.

20 years ago, small boy Everest Otto gathered with other war traumatised children for Grandmum Irene's school under the mango tree every day.

He watched intently as I turned the pagers of picture books.The children smiled and chattered as they viewed cartoon animals wearing clothes.
"Oh, yes,"I explained. "Australian animals wear clothes." 
Their voices raised, the children sung in halting English and tried to mimic my actions.

 Little by little they learned to sing "Jesus loves me.This I know, for the Bible tells me so." Another favourite was "I'm so glad Jesus set me free..Satan had me bound, but Jesus set me free."
As I looked over the children, I could see that miracles were needed to transform their diseased, malnourished bodies into healthy.

Their nights disturbed by marauding rebels kicking in the doors of their flimsy mudhuts, or even worse, setting fire to their grass roofs, the children gathered courage from these few hours of daylight, singing and seeing pictures of a world beyond their trauma. 

Weakened by malaria, isolated and depressed, as I daily trudged the dirt roads to several 'schools under the trees', I never fully appreciated the impact I was making in young lives.

As I look at the result: healthy young people, equipped with unique skills, now in their twenties with families of beautiful children, I can say CHILDCARE - Kitgum Servants was God's idea which He enabled this humble servant to perform.

Among many outstanding graduates is our artist Everest Otto. CKS trained him in carpentry, training that developed his sense of scale, but almost cost him his life. Sponsored to study at a technical college 20 kms distant from town, their school was targeted by rebels several times.

One dark night, in the playground rebels were tying with rope the students under 14years of age. Everest and his peers at 16 years of age were considered past the age of brutal indoctrination. At gunpoint they were forced to lay face down on their dormitory floor while rebels prepared to throw hand grenades into their midst.

God intervened. A baby started crying outdoors which alerted the few slumbering army guards. Gunfire zapped across the night sky.Students and rebels fled in all directions. Everest's life was saved for a higher purpose.

His sketches caught my attention. So he attended Michelangelo's School of Art for several years where his natural talent was honed.

Many of the CKS community church congregation are illiterate villagers. As they have spent the past 20 years barely surviving during war, many times they miss the  richness of bible stories.

Everest is bringing them alive on our church walls. His latest, the crucifixion scene, has caused many people to fall weeping on the ground. Some have risen to their feet, healed and delivered.

One of Everest's paintings now hangs on the wall of Hollywood singer Andrae' Crouch. It was delivered by producer of our DVD Cinderella Children, my 'mediterranean man' Grant Windle.

It began to rain, so empty plates became mini-umbrellas.
I prayed, "O God, have mercy on Your little ones. Stop the rain til they've had lunch please."

As the children chorused "Amen", the downpour ceased and orderly lines advanced towards the giant saucepans.

"Thank You, Father," I murmured. As I watched the children receiving their lunch, the Lord's Prayer came to my mind:

DADDY GOD, I breathe Your name.
Feel You reach down from heaven.
Lift me up and out of my pit
Up to a bluer heaven
Into Your spacious place
Of Lovelights, glistening,
And angels' kisses.

Your name promises us everything.
Jehovah Nissi is my fave:
Your Banner over me is LOVE.

I am satisfied in Jehovah Jireh,
My Provider.
Kept peaceful in Jehovah Shalom.

80% of our Vocational students were abducted, brutalised and forced to carry guns and machetes by the rebel army. As terrified children they were given the choice: 'Kill or be killed.' Few resisted and have recurring nightmares as a result of the senseless destruction of human life that they were party to.

When war ended 4 years ago, they escaped to rejoin their siblings living in camps.
Life has been cruel to these youth. Robbed of their childhood, their families destroyed by war, they have every reason to be angry and frustrated. War has muted any song in their heart.

CKS is giving them a new life, new songs.

GUNS4GUITARS is a CKS program to encourage poetry, song, dance and drama.

As well as enlisting the participation of Uganda's top Gospel artist, our son George Lubega (stagename: EXODUS 3v8) with his energetic dancehall style,
our youth are encouraged and inspired by local hiphop star Hakiim Olweny (stagename: BIGDEAL).

Today's presentation impacted over 1000 youth as they sat listening to his life story.

"My mother was a refugee from Rwanda. She raised me with a lot of love, but died when I was 10 years old. I located my father, a Muslim, and lived with him. Unfortunately, he also died 4 years later.
The uncles chased me away, saying I was just trying to rob them of their land. I was really rejected and thrown away from any family.

I had to take any odd jobs to get school fees. I had to miss school for a couple of years while I was cutting glass to raise fees.

Last year I came to CKS community church to enter their dance competition. I came third with my team of Bros4Peace. You know, dance is my family. Next day I came to the church service and after a lot of conflict in my mind, I gave my life to Jesus Christ.

My friends all bagged me. They said 'What is this rubbish, you give your life to Jesus? You are too young. You just want a job with CKS.'

But I stayed firm. And now God is giving me a lot of opportunities. I'm head of 100 youth at the Youth centre. I counsel many kids. With high energy, Hakiim then sang his new hiphop song to the students:

The students roared 'We go ahead. Go ahead.'

Hakiim continued 'Hey, my blood bros, I want to take you with me. Many of you have the same conflict in your minds that I had. Giving your life to Jesus is like going somewhere beautiful. You will never regret it. How many want to go ahead with Christ? Go ahead with life? Come out here and you will never regret it.'

Over thirty young came out to say no to discos and sleeping around, and determined to start a new more positive lifestyle led by Jesus.

Hakiim finished off with a boisterous hiphop which had the students cheering:

CKS has always grown in response to the needs of the community.
Our GLORYLAND JUNCTION AIDS Hospice was built to provide care for many of the infected parents of our schoolchildren.
I remember one Monday morning an 11 year old boy sat in the school assembly, tears streaming down his face. When taken aside he bravely told the story of his weekend when his mother had chased her 4 sons outside their mudhut. When they returned, they found her hanging from the bamboo struts. She had been sick with AIDS, unable to feed herself or care for her sons.
I decided to build a palliative care block on the project site adjacent to the school.This frees children from caring for their dying relatives, allowing them to attend school.
When I realised it would have to include a mortuary, I was very reluctant, until God said 'Make it a beautiful place of hope, call it 'GLORYLAND JUNCTION' and call the mortuary 'HEAVEN EXPRESS.'
There are usually 60 patients:
20 adults who are often rolled in in a wheelbarrow, skeletal cases discharged from hospital, sent home to die. Rather than allow a  human being die alone and forsaken in a village hut, CKS nurses are prepared to give patients good food, dignity of clean surroundings, treatment with ARVs and Christian counselling.
The results in our AIDS Hospice -incidentally the ONLY residential Hospice in Uganda - are impressive. In 2009 only 3 patients died, yet 25 were discharged, stabilised and able to rejoin their community.
The next 20 patients are infants whose mothers are AIDS infected or dead. The infants are admitted with a carer, their mother, grandmother, aunty or even grandfather. Infants are bottlefed costing $150 PER MONTH FOR FORMULA.
The remaining patients are AIDS infected children, whose relatives are dead. They attend CKS nursery or school during the day, but sleep in the ward,under supervision of nurses who monitor their condition and give ARVs when necessary. These children Kenneth & Simon Peter enjoy their loving community, though sometimes are unwell for several days after treatment which is similar to chemo-therapy.
We have just completed a children's new ward, and plan to build an outpatients' clinic to serve the impoverished villagers denied access to medical care .

Let's be honest..Are you reluctant to open your eyes and face the day most mornings?
Want to burrow under the blanket and hide? Most of us do , but will never admit it.

Well I am an expert at beating off the ghosts that have gathered during the night.
They were waiting for me when I emerged from my mother's womb, an embarrassment in an unwelcoming world.
They continued hovering through a traumatic childhood.
They robbed me of joy and oppressed me with exhaustion as a young mother.
Even now as Dame Irene, General Grandmum, honored and awarded a gold medal as successful rescuer of thousands of children, I 'm aware of the presence of armies of wickedness massed to dodge my steps.

God explains the battle: We are not fighting physical or soul wounds. We are facing spooks, master spirits, evil generals and wicked armies of the spirit world. They've been having meetings while you slept to target your weaknesses and align you with pits. (Eph 6v12 & Ps 2 )

Well God's laughing.And so should you at their stupidity. Want an action plan for tomorrow morning. This way..Follow me.

1. IDENTIFY the ENEMY - the robbers of joy & energy.

Is its name Depression? Rejection ? Discontent ? Poverty ? Abandonment ? These are some common ones assigned to me.
But you would have your own personally assigned after demon rulers studied your childhood traumas.

2. BIND UP the SPIRIT & GAG IT.

Say "I bring every thought CAPTIVE into line with Your Word, Papa God.
Depression. Loss. Rejection. Fatigue. Disappointment. Strife. I catch you. I take you prisoner of war. I bind you in chains. I silence you.

You stupid thoughts, you spirits. Do not elevate yourself above God's Word made Flesh, that is JESUS.

I reject you. I say NO ! to Depression. I say NO ! to Fatigue.
(Ps 149)

3. GIVE the PRISONER to GOD (Phil. 4v6 & 1Pet 5v7)

Say "Papa God this worry has been gnawing at me. I turn it over to You.
I cannot carry it anymore. You God deal with the problem.
You God organise my life. (Isa. 9v6)

4. SPIRIT of PEACE GUARD /PROTECT my MIND.

Holy Spirit, Comforter to me, I hear You say "I am putting Captains of War over you to guard your body, soul and spirit. Do not be afraid. God Himself is fighting on your behalf."
(2 Chron 32v6)

5. SEE the DAY THROUGH GOD's RUBY WINDOWS (Isa. 54v12)

Now You God walk me through my day.

I say YES to GODLOVE. I say YES to GODJOY. I say YES to GODPEACE.

Finally fix your mind on Phil.4v8: Truth of God's love for you, His promises.
Whatever is justice. Whatever is pure. Whatever is lovely. Whatever is kind and winsome.
Whatever is excellent. Whatever deserves praise.

I LEAVE YOU with our GOD of PEACE. ENJOY TODAY.

Every morning Pastor Alfred Komagum - also Head of CKS Technical College/Institute - leads our students -80% ex child soldiers - in morning dance & worship.

Local officials have commented that without CKS Technical school, these youth would have drifted into crime.
 Now there despair has been turned into hope for a good future as they choose to learn trades from carpentry/ building/business studies/welding/tailoring.

Today the 'Affrero Project' visited us; 4 visitors came up to see us in the bush. They arrived a little beat up after 3 hrs bumping along the rainy dirt road from Lira. But they' ve made me laugh & brought some Ozzie & Yankee humor into Kitgum.  

Led by Lucas Parry (Larry for dyslexics), Peter Rees (an Ozzie), Marc Krejci (tall blonde American..(married,ladies),escorted by Ugandan Patrick (unmarried..looking for a wife). 

They had big tour of our 18 acres. Of course were impressed by the massive scale of the entire operation.(My dad WAS an American..why I think big.)

They ate bugs (fried white ants), saw the Aids patients, met trade students, and spread their smiles around. Locals are amazed when visitors brave the roads to reach here.
